Gray, Iowa

Saturday was a day of firsts for Kenedy.  She went to church, a funeral, saw the inside of an old schoolhouse, met distant cousins, toured the four square block town of Gray, Iowa and experienced bitter Iowa rain and wind.

The schoolhouse is no longer used for teaching but is owned and operated by the community and used for events like receptions and reunions.  When I was in eighth grade I came to Gray, Iowa to meet my distant cousins.  We had a potluck in the gym.  I remember green bean casserole and playing baseball with my second cousins on the field in the next town over.

The female minister at the Gray United Methodist Church quoted Paul from Corinthians:

Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Good words for a nine year old to hear and remember.
